Well as some of you know I work in the fine dining business. For me December means one thing. Money and work because in our business we are pretty much reserved to the max for the entire month of January because people of all kinds want to enjoy an experience from the staff at my restaurant to help make their dinners and Christmas parties as enjoyable as possible while getting the best service in the area by far. For me, since I have only ever worked in the business of fine dining I struggle myself to dine out because of the service I offer people and the service I get at some local establishments. It isn’t as if they are not capable of serving properly and doing their job as effectively as me but when you learn a trait and only ever learn to do it a specific way especially something like fine dining you notice all the little things that go into everyone’s dining experiences at every restaurant you come across. Hopefully the month goes by quickly because working 7 shifts a week 6 days and dealing with the stress of finals all at the same time is very difficult and time consuming but with a little help from my friends and family I know it’ll be January before I know it and wish we were as busy as we were this month.

Well as stated in my last post I was beaten, mugged and robbed almost 2 weeks ago. I am finally recovering and able to walk on my own a lot more comfortably than last week. I still am no where near fully recovered but I am doing as much as I can because trust me being stuck in bed for a week was one of the worst things I’ve had to do in a while.
Mostly because being stuck in bed and unable to work on the mounds of school work that I needed to accomplish really put me back in terms of the amount I had to finish this week. I really had a hard time finishing papers and 2 different projects along with an exam I missed while out of school for a week. It was a struggle but I am almost all caught up.
Those who know me well know I love to run and I always go running and right now I don’t know when the next time I’ll be able to run but trust me I am pushing myself as much as possible because I am just glad I am not stuck in bed. Trust me I was sleep deprived and needed to catch up on some Zzzz… but going through a traumatic event and being stuck in bed wore me out more than anything you could imagine.
I can’t wait till my next run and hopefully it won’t be as far off as people suggest but until I have made a full recovery I cannot risk damaging my hips and ribs more than what already has occurred and hopefully by the end of next week I will have all this glue off my face!

Well last week I was mugged and beaten and while sitting in bed pretty much able to absolutely nothing I got to do a lot of sleep that I felt I have been deprived throughout this semester.
It didn’t help. Yup… I still am tired and obviously very sore and a little out of it due to the incident. I believe besides the pain and discomfort that I am dealing with due to my inquiries the hardest thing I am having to deal with is the fact that almost out of no where I will become instantly tired and drained after only being awake for a few hours.
The traumatic event really did not seem to take a huge emotional toll on me because the way I see it is it’s life and I was just very happy to know I have a family that was able to make sure I was getting all the things I needed to make the best of my situation and also my friends at work were able to cover my shifts for the entire week even though it was one of the busiest weeks we have had in over a month.
I think what I took from the event is pretty much screw Woodriver and five-dollar pizza but not only that I realized how there my family and friends were for me during my time of need. They know I will always be there for them no matter what happens to them also but for how sudden the event was and the fact that my brother also got married last week was crazy to me. I still am very sore but I am alive and have a great family and great friends and I couldn’t ask for more than that.
Well last week was very exciting seeing my brother for the first time in several months since he has been in basic training then moved to Fort Hood in Texas. Me and my brother shared a room for 18 years of our lives before he left for the Army and now a lot of things have been on my mind and it’s crazy how much, and little, I do on my Sundays now. I feel like since it is one of my only days off I dedicate them to sleep and a lot of homework. It is crazy how much I procrastinate sometimes but I generally get all of my assignments done. Last week… He surprised us by coming home without notice and I had not seen him since the day he left for basic training which was really hard. He is getting married next month when I was expecting to see him for the first time. If he would have let me know he was coming I may have done my homework later in the week but last week I did about nothing because I spent all day with him until I had to take him to the airport. I was up all night and even went to school the next day on about 2-3 hours of sleep. The struggle was real but in the end I was very happy to see him because he is my brother and he knows I am so proud of him.
Most now know about how Colorado has passed bills that allow specific users to participate in legal marijuana smoking that is due to medical reasons. What a lot of people do not know is that even though the state of Colorado has legalized medical marijuana it is still illegal according to United States law.
What Illinois has proposed this week in the legislature is SB0753 in the 99th General Assembly. This bill, if passed by the legislature, will allow for a person 21 years of age or older the ability to possess up to 30 grams of marijuana or up to 5 marijuana plants without exceeding the 30 gram maximum which would result in fines of up to $750.
If this bill passes it will be the first bill to allow recreational use of marijuana and as Illinois law currently states a person can have 15 grams or less and only be punishable by a civil disobedience charge of no more than the average traffic ticket.
State law trumps national law but some government organizations like the DEA still will have the ability to pursue those in possession of high quantities of marijuana which has been seen in Colorado. When taken to the supreme court most people can get out of charges pursued by the national government but they must be in accordance to state laws and not disobey them.
I do not know what I think about the bill and there is a good chance that it will fail to be passed in the legislature but they should know the vote on Oct. 11 and hopefully we, as a state, can begin to tax and control the recreational use of marijuana and begin to restructure ourselves as a state.
To see more about the bill check out this link and let me know what you think about the bill, http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=753&GAID=13&DocTypeID=SB&SessionID=88&GA=99.
With the lack of sleep some of us engaged college students are having to deal with the need for coffee is on the rise and we even have a celebrated National Coffee Day, which is today, to celebrate our growing need for the energy that sweet cup of coffee gives us.
Depending on why you need the caffeinated liquid in your body the need is impressively large. We, as American’s, drink an average of 3 cups of coffee per person per day! That is an impressive number. It is not quite noon yet and I am already thinking about the third cup I will have today.
Until hearing about the holiday today, which is an odd holiday…?, I was not aware of how many people consume coffee in the United States and the amount of coffee everyone consumes each day. USA Today did a study and found that in 2013 83% of Americans drank coffee regularly.
With the amount of coffee we are drinking and other negative health risks we take everyday I feel like some people might want to switch from leaded to unleaded coffee, if anyone gets the Road House reference. I think it is important for people to know how much caffeinated products affect their bodies and these stats are only representing coffee when some of these individuals are using regular ‘5 hour energy’ or other energy brands.
Plato had it right, “wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.” You can see this in real life application and looking at the narrative paradigm theory of Walter Fisher you can apply this to the stories you hear everyday.
Fisher’s narrative paradigm theory is the theory that states all types of communication besides phatic communication are seen as stories. We then take all these individual stories that people are constantly telling us and try to create our own reality in which we can tell that story to others and share our information and experiences.
I have always loved this theory, like other theories, because of its application in my career path. I plan to attend U of I for law school and when in the courtroom you must listen to different individuals accounts of what they believe happened at different times and try to make one complete story to share with the jury to try to get the votes you need for your client.
This can be hard because sometimes people’s stories vary in many ways and trying to formulate a story that is whole and complete that shares the same details as the previous stories told. I think it is important that as communicators within our respective fields we must share the information that matters and not add information that is unnecessary so we can make whole stories easier and more effectively.
I reference a lot of plato in my studies because through philosophy we can see how things work within people and how they work more effectively and rationally. I believe in ethics and justice and through proper communication I make both ethical and just decisions based on the different stories I am told everyday.
